Ethical Product Testing

In 1989, Avon became the first major beauty company to stop using animals in the safety testing of our products. We do not test ingredients on animals, nor do we ask others to test on our behalf.

Where Avon leads, others surely follow.

We led the industry by ceasing to use animals in the safety testing of products and opened an in-house cell culture facility.

This was recognised in November 1993, when we received a CAAT (Centre for Alternatives to Animal Testing) Award from the John Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health for our commitment and dedication to non-animal alternatives for product safety evaluation. In 2005 Avon was acknowledged with an award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) when the company was named winner in the "Best Cruelty - Free Cosmetics" category.

As a leading name in beauty, we actively support FRAME, the foundation which is working to find viable alternatives to animal testing. We also share the results of our activity, in the field of developing alternatives, with other manufacturers in our industry.

Our stance against animal testing is a central part of our belief that we have an important role to play, not only in the cosmetics industry, but also in the wider community.
